ABOUT THE CAUSE: In honor of Veterans of all armed services, a portion of proceeds from this special limited edition print offering will be donated to Home Base, a national non-profit dedicated to helping our military heroes heal. Home Base’s mission? To heal the invisible wounds of war directly - through clinical care, wellness, education, and research: all at no cost to Veterans, Service Members, and their Families. ABOUT THIS PIECE: I have always admired old-time sailor tattoos - their design and place of origin. I created this image to combine my love of dogs and an iconic type of tattoo with a nod to the past. In fact, the British Navy picked up tattoos from Polynesian culture in the 18th century - a tradition that had a lasting impact on Western military culture. Tattoos, showcasing historical events, influenced our language too. The word "tattoo" comes from the Tahitian word "tatau". In America, tattoos became more common due to war and patriotism in the 20th century. Military symbols and patriotic themes became popular in tattoos, especially among Navy members during World War II, with around 65% having tattoos.

The tattoo on my sailor was a design I created after studying vintage tattoos. I applied it to my image in post-production, hair by hair by hair. It was daunting work but nothing compared to the work that Sailors, and all others who serve in the military, do to protect our country.

Smaller prints are shipped flat, oversized prints (24x24, 24x30, 30x40 and 40x52) are shipped rolled in heavy duty mailing tubes. Most orders take 3-5 business days in transit. You will be sent tracking information as soon as your order ships.  Sorry, no rush orders.
